വൈഡൂര്യം

നവരത്നങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് വൈഡൂര്യം. വൈഡൂര്യം എന്നത് ബറിലിയത്തിൻറെ ഒരു അലുമിനേറ്റായ 'ക്രിസോസോബറിൽ' ആണ്. ഇതിൻറെ കാഠിന്യം 8.5 ഉം ആപേക്ഷിക സാന്ദ്രത ഏകദേശം 3.75 ഉം ആകുന്നു.

ഇന്ദ്രനീലം

നവരത്നങ്ങളിലെ ഒരു രത്നമാണ് ഇന്ദ്രനീലം (Sapphire). ശനിയുടെ രത്നമായാണ് ഇത് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ആത്മീയതയുടെയും, ദിവ്യമായ പ്രണയത്തിന്റെയും രഹസ്യങ്ങളുടെയും രത്നമായാണ് ഇത് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. രത്നങ്ങളിൽ വച്ചേറ്റവും കാഠിന്യമേറിയത് വജ്രമാണ്. അത് കഴിഞ്ഞാൽ കാഠിന്യം കൂടിയത് കോറണ്ടം കുടുംബത്തിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്ന രത്നങ്ങളാണ്. കോറണ്ടം കുടുംബത്തിൽ ഉൾപ്പെടുന്നവയാണ് മാണിക്യം(Ruby), പുഷ്യരാഗം(Topaz) തുടങ്ങിയ രത്നങ്ങൾ കോറണ്ടത്തിൽ ചുവന്ന നിറമുള്ളവ മാണിക്യം എന്നും മഞ്ഞനിറമുള്ളവ

ഗോമേദകം

നവരത്‌നങ്ങളിൽ ശ്രേഷ്ഠമായ ഗോമേദകം പുരാണകഥകൾ പ്രകാരം സൈംഹികേയൻ എന്ന അസുരനായ രാഹുവിന്റെ രത്‌നമായാണ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ഇവയ്ക്ക് സംസ്‌കൃതത്തിൽ ഗോമേദക്, പിങ്‌സ്പടിക്, തമോമണി, രാഹുരത്‌നം തുടങ്ങിയ പേരുകളുണ്ട്. ധൈര്യം, വലിയ ആഗ്രഹങ്ങൾ, ആത്മവിശ്വാസം, പുതിയ വെല്ലുവിളികൾ ഏറ്റെടുക്കാനുള്ള കഴിവ് എന്നിവയുടെ രത്‌നമായാണ് അറിയപ്പെടുന്നത്. ക്രിസ്തുവിന് 3100 വർഷങ്ങൾക്ക് മുമ്പ് തന്നെ ഈജിപ്തുകാർ ഗാർനെറ്റ് പതിച്ച ആഭരണങ്ങൾ ധരിച്ചിരുന്നതായും, അന്നത്തെ യോദ്ധാക്കൾ ഇഷ്ടരത്‌നമായ ഇവയെ അവരുടെ ആയുധങ്ങളിൽ പതിച്ചിരുന്നതായും ചരിത്രം രേഖപ്പെടുത്തുന്നു.

പവിഴം

കടലിൽ ജീവിക്കുന്ന ഒരു തരം ജീവിയുടെ ആവാസസ്ഥാനമാണ് പുറ്റുകൾ. Corallium ജനുസിൽ പെട്ട പവിഴപ്പുറ്റുകളിൽ നിന്നാണ് പവിഴം എന്ന രത്നം ലഭിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതിനെ ആഭരണം ഉണ്ടാക്കാൻ ഉപയോഗിക്കുന്നു. നവരത്നങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് പവിഴം.

മുത്ത്

നവരത്നങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്നാണ് മാണിക്യം. അലൂമിനിയം ഓക്സൈഡ് ധാതുവായ ഇതിന്റെ ചുവപ്പ് നിറത്തിന് കാരണം ക്രോമിയത്തിന്റെ സാന്നിധ്യമാണ്( Al2O3:Cr ). മോസ് സ്കെയിലിൽ ഇതിന്റെ കാഠിന്യം 9.0 ആണ്. പ്രകൃതിയിൽ നിന്നും ലഭിക്കുന്ന വസ്തുക്കളിൽ ഇതിന്റെക്കാൾ കാഠിന്യമുള്ള വജ്രവും മോസ്സനൈറ്റും (SiC) മാത്രമാണ്.
